La Boqueria – Barcelona, Spain

One of the best markets in the world, Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria has been around since 1277. What started as a travelling market has resulted in this stained glassed wonder with all kinds of produce.

Apart from the cooked food such as empanadas you see above, the market also sells a smorgasbord of produces ranging from fruit, ham, cheese, fish, spices and even candy and chocolate.

I was in foodie heaven! Didn’t even know where to start.

Hmm, oh wait maybe I did. Haha! Well as you venture inner parts of the market, you’ll see fresh fish in ice as well as cured bacalao, a staple in Spanish cuisine.

Be very careful of pickpockets while you are there and don’t touch the produce unless you intend to buy some. It’s quite crowded and people are jostling each other half the time so be aware of your belongings.
