The Black Swan – Singapore

A few weeks back, the much awaited restaurant The Black Swan opened its doors at historic building, The Quadrant.

Previously a Chinese bank in the 1930s, the interiors feel like you’ve stepped into the set of The Great Gatsby.

I was there for a friends’s birthday dinner and she was never happier with my recommendation. We ordered half a dozen of fresh shucked oysters to start. The atmosphere is quite dark, so sorry for the darkish photos.

The first image is of my amazing Golden Parachute cocktail, The Black Swan’s take on the old fashioned. Yes, that is a cherry covered in gold leaf.

For the mains, we had the duck confit and the tenderloin steak which was USDA 365 days grain-fed beef. Utterly tender and cooked to perfection, medium rare for me. It also came with a side of crisp fries.

We also had a field day with the desserts. The Sticky Date Pudding was warm and comforting. I felt a sense of emptiness when it was gone. 😦

The other two, the Coconut Panna Cotta with candied ginger and orange peel moreish and a rich yet palate cleansing treat and The Valrhona Chocolate Dome with a hazelnut praline is completely sinful and satisfying as well.

Overall and excellent place for special occasions and dinner dates. It’s a little pricy, so expect $28 and up for a main.

The ambience and good service adds to the whole experience as well 🙂
