House – Singapore

Dempsey Hill can be a bit of a pain to get to but House has some good nosh that I wouldn’t mind going in for. Serving up Western fusion food and housed within the forest of sorts, the atmosphere is relaxed and cosy. Their newly revamped menu serves up a buttload of fries. Think carrot fries, truffle fries, yam fries, pumpkin fries….

Their Pearl Barley Salad ($18 with chicken) is a great start to the meal with grilled chicken, salad leaves, boiled barley and red quinoa. Light and healthy to start. Then move on to the Wagyu Beef Spring Roll ($29) the beef is marinated with soy and maple giving a sweet-salty bite, accompanied with Thai-inspired green papaya salad, this is refreshing indeed.


The Braised Pork Shoulder Rigatoni ($28) is an absolute gem with shredded pieces of pulled pork tossed in tomato sauce with a hint of chilli. A good carb dish. But, my favourite main is definitely the Hanger Steak with Croquettes and Wild Mushrooms ($27). Done to medium, the flesh is tender and well-seasoned, it is one of the best “steaks” I’ve had. I also loved the side of croquettes filled with ham and creamy bechamel sauce. Simply mmm.

Of course you can have cakes and ice-cream to end your meal, but why do that? Spring a mere $2.50 for a piece of their Tau Sar Pau. It is what it sounds like a white Red Bean Bun, but it is so incredibly soft and filled to the inch with grounded red bean paste. They tout it as the best one in SIN City. And I must say, I agree.
